Natalia Kravciuk: president of the National Public Association “Gutta-Club”, in Moldova

I’m president of the National Public Association “Gutta-Club”, one of the first NGOs in Moldova, which still specializes in environmental education and enlightenment, climate, resource conservation, agroecoculture and human rights. “Gutta-Club” is a gold medalist of the National Competition “Moldova Eco-Energetica” in 2012 and a silver medalist in 2013 and 2014 in the nominations “Best youth initiative in promoting energy efficiency ideas” and “Best educational initiative”.

A project we’re proud of is «Energia si Biomasa» (2011-2018). The Energy and Biomass Project is a seven-year project funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, thanks to which 265 schools, kindergartens, cultural centers, hospitals have replaced coal and gas heating with biomass heating. 70 of them received access to hot water produced by solar energy. 199,000 people have access to affordable and clean energy produced in the Republic of Moldova thanks to the Energy and Biomass project.

Gutta-Club was responsible for the educational component of the Energy and Biomass project, which consisted of several components:

  1. Development of an optional educational course “Renewable Energy Sources” for middle and high schools, preparation of textbooks for middle and high grades and manuals for teachers. The course was approved by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova and entered the National Curriculum.
  2. Working with pilot schools during the academic year, introducing the course, organizing a series of webinars, as well as a competition of scientific papers on the topic of renewable energy.
  3. Energel Summer Eco-School was held every summer for participants and winners of the competition. For 6 years, the project covered 370 schools from both banks of the Dniester. 21,000 students completed the course on renewable energy. About 400 children took part in the Energel summer school.

In early June 2023, a meeting of members of the international network CAN (Climate Action Network) in the region of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia took place in Georgia (the Gutta-Сlub has been a member of the network for more than 10 years). I was elected to the Council of the Network for a period of two years. This means that our activity in terms of participation in the development of climate policies and involvement in the annual Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will increase.

I am still friends and cooperating with the participants of the GPS and I am sincerely grateful to the organizers for such an incredible event in my life. GPS Forever!
