Youth and frontline activists across Bangladesh organized actions as part of the Global Climate Strike on September 23, 2022, with demands for a Green New Deal in Bangladesh and a just transition to renewable energy.
The fossil fuel industry is responsible for the record-breaking floods that Bangladesh deals with yearly, but fossil fuel companies and developed countries continue to prioritize amassing profits over taking care of people. Climate strikers demand rich countries like Japan stop financing fossil fuel projects in Bangladesh and invest in renewable energy. Strikers across Bangladesh held pickets and took creative actions in Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Kushtia, Barishal, and Dhaka.
In Dhaka, Fridays For Future worked with organizations to organize a climate strike. ActionAid, Eco-Network, Lal Sobuj Society, and many other organizations. They marched and held protests before the Press Club, demanding reparations for loss and damages. The youth addressed the leaders of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the date of the strike. They called on world leaders to accelerate investment in community-owned renewable energy projects.
Young people in Bangladesh are calling for a Green New Deal and for fossil gas to be excluded from the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan Project that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is currently drafting for Bangladesh.
Climate Strikes were also held across the country. Here are some highlights:

In the upcoming conference of parties (COP), we must discuss the climate crisis to save our present and future. Global north nations must pay for the loss and damage in the global south.
