Biden’s First Days in Office

“This is our time to go big. Our job is to ensure all our communities are healthy, safe, and free against oppressive systems of white supremacy, capitalism, and the patriarchy — all of which perpetuate the climate crisis.”

– May Boeve, 350.org Executive Director

On his very first day in office, President Joe Biden announced the US will rejoin the Paris climate agreement. This announcement came as Biden also cancelled the Keystone XL permit.

It is amazing when you think about it.

An unprecedented movement led by Indigenous communities, farmers and ranchers, young folks, climate activists, and supporters like you, won a decade-long fight against one of the most disastrous pipeline projects in this country.

But here’s the truth: it’s not enough to stop one pipeline at a time — we must go further and think bigger — we must implement a climate test for ALL fossil fuel projects. That’s why we’re calling on Biden to apply a climate test for every proposed fossil fuel project moving forward:

Can you add your name to our petition calling on Biden to adopt a climate test to ensure that all projects that impact our climate are stopped?

President Biden is also taking other urgent measures to roll back Trump’s disastrous environmental and climate policies. He placed a moratorium on oil and gas leasing in the Arctic and also directed his administration to review all of Trump’s climate and environmental rollbacks, and revise ones not in line with science, health and environmental justice. It’s a LONG list.

“To be a true climate president, Biden must not only ensure bold action — he must address the inequities of the crisis by supporting legislation that prioritizes Black, Indigenous, working class, and communities of color most impacted and in need of a just recovery, a Green New Deal, and the Thrive resolution. We will hold the Biden administration to their promises and push them to be bolder on every issue.”

– Thanu Yakupitiyage, 350.org US Communications Director

350.org is a founding member of Build Back Fossil Free, a growing campaign of nearly 200 groups representing millions of people across the country fighting for intersectional justice that have come together to ensure Biden becomes the climate president he promised to be. The campaign is hosting a digital rally on Tuesday, January 26th to escalate demands for bold climate action during Biden’s first 100 days in office, and beyond.

We know what it takes to win, and we won’t give up until we do.
