Are you ready to listen to the future? Artist Olafur Eliasson and Pathway to Paris are known for bringing culture and creativity into climate crisis conversations, across generations, to inspire change today. Amplify kids’ voices to reimagine and shape the future of our planet by contributing to a global collective artwork!
Earth Speakr is a new interactive artwork started by artist Olafur Eliasson that amplifies kids’ views on the future wellbeing of the planet. The artwork invites adults and today’s decision-makers, change-makers, and global leaders to listen up to what kids have to say. Earth Speakr uses augmented reality and includes a free app (on iOS and Android) and an interactive website (www.earthspeakr.art) available in 25 languages and accessible worldwide. The artwork is funded by the Federal Foreign Office on the occasion of the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2020 and realised in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. Last year Eliasson was appointed as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador for climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals. In this short video he takes you through the artwork.
The 1000 Cities Initiative for Carbon Freedom, founded by Pathway to Paris, is based on the idea that if 1000 cities can go net zero by 2040 or sooner, we as a planet can meet the targets in the Paris Agreement of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees. 1000 Cities has also developed a calculator that shows how much carbon each city has left in order to stay aligned with the Paris Agreement. You can view where your city is at here. Together, Earth Speakr and 1000 Cities are working to make sure kids’ creative Earth Speakr messages reach decision-makers in their local municipalities, asking that what kids below the voting age have to say – their concerns and ideas – are taken seriously.
It is easy for everyone to get involved – Earth Speakr toolkits available in 25 languages have gathered suggestions on fun activities that you can do at museums, libraries, in your classroom indoors or outdoors, online or in person! Join the artwork and share your vision for our shared future with the world!
